  The lawmaker representing Surulere 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has come under attack for referring to protesters as children and saying that Nigeria may disintegrate if the social media space is not regulated. The Nollywood veteran had while issuing the warning during plenary lamented the massive looting in the wake of the End SARS protests across the country. BREAKING news: Okonjo Iweala becomes the first African and woman to emerge WTO DG

  The former Minister of Finance in Nigeria, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has emerged as the new Director General of the World Trade Organization. She is the first female and first African Director-General of the WTO.   In a keenly contested election, Okonjo-Iweala beat her rival, South Korean Yoo Myung hee, with a wide margin. She polled 104 votes from 164 member countries to defeat Myung Hee at the final stage of the race.   Okonjo-Iweala received widespread support from Africa and other continents before the election which took place today October 28.   Her victory comes days after European Union member nations backed her candidacy against Ms. Myung hee, who was supported by the United States.   The official announcement is expected to be made by the WTO at 3pm Nigerian time today.

Police arrest more looters in Calabar

The Cross River State Police Command in Calabar has arrested more criminals who participated in the looting of government and private properties on Friday and Saturday nights respectively. The police also recovered many items that were carted away from the affected houses. Similarly, the police also arrested some of the hoodlums who were raping innocent citizens while the looting were going on. In another development, the police also arrested the hoodlums who attempted to break the first bank ATM at Mayne Avenue in Calabar South. So far so good, the police are doing a good job. Babatunde Fashola, the Minister for Works and Housing, on Sunday, discovered a hidden camera at the Lekki Toll Gate, Admiralty Circle, in Lagos. The Minister made the discovery when he led a Federal Government delegation to commiserate wit h Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Governor, over the loss of lives and destruction of properties in the state. Recall that the #EndSARS protests turned bloody last week Tuesday when soldiers invaded a peaceful protest and opened fire on protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate. This led to the violence that resulted to killings and destruction of private and public properties by angry youths in the State. The delegation led by Fashola on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari, included the Ministers of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Mines and Industries, Olamilekan Adegbite, Niyi Adebayo, Trade and Investments and Olorunnibe Mamora, Health State.   The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has said the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu told him the State would need N1trillion for reconstruction after the destruction caused by hoodlums who hijacked the #EndSARS protests. He stated this while fielding questions from State House correspondents on Sunday. Gbajabiamila spoke after taking a tour of some of the destroyed assets in Lagos. He said, “The House of Representatives will do all it can to compensate all those who suffered brutality, including policemen that lost their lives in the process. “However, we want to know what exactly happened at the Lekki Toll Gate. The judicial panel must reveal this.
